Foundation Footings
Quite aside from my emotional reaction (intense gratitude, excitement, relief, optimism, privilege) to watching this home being constructed, I am fascinated by how it is done. More to come today!

Having never been a part of the process of laying down gravel bed for under a basement, I found it really fascinating. The gravel has to be dumped in, spread around with a bucket loader and then metal hand rakes. All the while we had to keep checking the level of the gravel bed with the transit level.
With the gravel we had, we were able to do all of house 3 and 2/3 of house 2. Which is pretty good for three hours work by three people! Now if only I could learn to drive the bucket loader! :-)

Groundbreaking Ceremony
Models and drawings of the three houses. Not sure yet which one is ours... but I love them all!!
Happy Kate at the groundbreaking ceremony... sorry the boys couldn't be there with me.
After the blessing, everyone pitched in to turn over the earth, turning over a new chapter in the lives of the partner families. Thank you, one and all.

Great News from Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity!
We received amazing news yesterday from Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity. We have been selected for one of the homes being built in Charlotte this year!
We are so very grateful to all those who supported us in this application process, and especially to the folks at GMHfH for their wonderful work to help families in need. And most of all such profound thanks to our dear friend Stephen, without whom we would not have even known about this opportunity.
The Groundbreaking Celebration is Friday June 18, 2010 at the Old Lantern in Charlotte. The Charlotte community is supporting this project and GMHfH with so many people already donating their time and resources. The Groundbreaking will be a fun event with music, desert, and bring your own shovel! For details on time and cost, see the Burlington Free Press article: http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/article/20100617/NEWS02/6170309/1007/Charlotte-to-hold-housing-celebration
